How it works

The Extension checks whether the company shown on the LinkedIn page you are currently viewing appears on the UK Home Office’s public Register of Licensed Sponsors (Workers). That register is the authoritative list of UK employers licensed to sponsor Skilled Worker visas.

  • You visit a LinkedIn company page (linkedin.com/company/…) or a job page (linkedin.com/jobs/…).
  • The Extension reads the company name shown on the page.
  • It compares that name against a cached copy of the register (refreshed daily from gov.uk).
  • The result is shown inline on the page and inside the extension’s toolbar popup: a match means the company appears on the register, a no match means it does not.

A “no match” result does not mean the company cannot sponsor. It means the exact name shown on LinkedIn does not appear on the current public register — the company may trade under a different legal name, may be a subsidiary of a licensed employer, or the register may not have been updated. Always confirm sponsorship directly with the employer.

Installing the extension

  1. Open the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Confirm the permissions prompt (see the privacy policy for what each permission is used for).
  3. Pin the extension to your toolbar for quick access: click the puzzle icon in Chrome’s toolbar, then the pin icon next to UK Visa Sponsor Checker.

Using the extension

  • On a LinkedIn company page — the sponsor status appears inline on the page shortly after it loads.
  • On a LinkedIn job page — the status appears next to the employer name.
  • From the toolbar — click the extension icon at any time on a supported page to see the current match result and the exact name it matched against.

Troubleshooting

I don’t see any result on the page

  • Confirm you are on a LinkedIn company or job page — the extension does not run on the LinkedIn home feed, search results, or messaging pages.
  • Reload the page. LinkedIn loads a lot of content dynamically; a hard reload (Ctrl+F5 / Cmd+Shift+R) helps if the page rendered before the extension attached.
  • Confirm the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions.

The result looks wrong

  • The register uses employers’ official legal names. A company that trades as “Acme” may appear as “Acme Holdings Ltd” or under a parent company. Click the toolbar icon to see exactly what name the extension matched (or failed to match) against.
  • The register is updated by the Home Office — the extension refreshes its cache once every 24 hours. Very recent register changes may take up to a day to appear.
  • If you believe a company is genuinely misclassified, please report it (see below) with the LinkedIn page URL and the name shown by the extension.

The extension icon is greyed out

  • It only activates on linkedin.com pages. On any other site it stays inactive.

I want to clear the cached register

  • Remove and re-install the extension from chrome://extensions. The next lookup will re-download a fresh copy of the register from gov.uk.
